Make a life not just a living.
A recent USA Today survey showed that 53% of Americans are not happy in their jobs. Whether you work for someone else or have a business of your own, you have to love what you do in order to maintain a positive attitude and have lasting inner peace. If you love God and commit your work to Him, He will direct you in ways to pursue your passions in life. Proverbs 16:3 tells us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” God gives us dreams and passions and enables us, as we trust in Him, to fulfill them according to His plan.
John James Audubon found success when he pursued his passion. He had always loved the outdoors, was an excellent hunter, and was a good artist. As he began to draw local birds for a hobby, he stopped trying to be a businessman and started doing more of what he loved. As he traveled around the country observing and drawing those birds, he was doing what he loved and found peace of mind. His art was collected in a book titled Audubon’s Birds of America. He became known as the greatest wildlife artist ever.
When, at the age of 52, Ray Kroc founded the first McDonald’s, he embarked on a future of following his passion and never “worked” another day in his life. Along the way, Ray helped others become successful and therefore became a great success himself. It has been said that you can have anything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want. Not only did Ray Kroc have monetary success, but he had personal success because he did what he loved and he loved what he did. He also proved that it doesn’t matter what your age, you can start following your dreams anytime. Be encouraged if you are not where you want to be in life; you can change your direction and start to pursue your passions TODAY! It only takes a decision.
It has been said to find what you love to do and then find a way to make money doing it. When we pursue our passions, committing our work to the Lord, our plans do succeed and we therefore make a life and not just a living. We need to follow our passions and then commit our work to God and He will enable us to prosper. We will be fulfilled in life, we will be at peace, and we will find true happiness.
Sometimes discovering what we love to do can take time to analyze ourselves, to discover what our true passions are. Passion is not something we can fake. It is the fuel that drives our dreams, making us happy just to be alive.
All of us are unique by God’s design, and we all have our own special gifts. We can discover our gifts by writing down a list of what we consider our strengths and weaknesses. Ken Blanchard recommends seeking the objective opinions of family and friends who know us best to help us determine if we truly recognize our strengths and weaknesses. While our purpose in life will most likely not surface overnight, if we are patient and strive to live our life around our passion, we will find it!!
“When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to get to work on it.”~W. Clement Stone
