Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Heard John Hagee say this and thought it was excellent!  We are all one day going to leave this earth.  If we want to make sure we spend eternity with God, we need to read His instruction book, the Bible, before that day arrives.  Spend time in God’s word TODAY!

1. Faith is the ability to not panic.

2. If you worry, you didn't pray. If you prayed, don't worry.

3. As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home every day.

4. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.

5. When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants
us to be still so He can untangle the knot.

6. Do the math.  Count your blessings.

7. God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.

8. Dear God: I have a problem. It's me.

9. Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted.

10. Laugh every day - it's like inner jogging.

11. The most important things in your home are the people.

12. Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional.   (Preach it!)

13. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open. Come on in.

14. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.

15. He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

16. We do not remember days but moments. Life moves too fast so
   enjoy your precious moments.

17. Nothing is real to you until you experience it; otherwise it's just

18. It's alright to sit on your pity pot every now and again.
Just be sure to flush when you are done.

19. Surviving and living your life successfully requires
courage. The goals and dreams you're seeking require courage
and risk-taking. Learn from the turtle, it only makes progress
when it sticks out its neck.

20. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation.
Your character is what you really are, while your reputation
is merely what others think you are.  No matter the storm,
when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Leave gentle fingerprints on the soul of another for the
angels to read. I don't want to get to the end of my life
and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have
lived the width of it as well.

2 Timothy 1:7

I once heard it said, “Whenever you step out in faith, the devil wants you to step back in fear.”  But listen to what the Word of God says in 2 Timothy 1:7, written here in several different bible versions.

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and discipline.”-NASB

“God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.”-The Message

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but (He has given us a spirit) of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.”-The Amplified Bible

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self discipline.”-NIV

The devil is a liar.  Let’s live our lives with the spirit God has placed within us, the spirit of power, of love, and of self discipline and self control.

Insights from Rick Warren

I received this in an e-mail some time ago and thought it was worth sharing here on our blog.  I am not sure exactly when this was written or by whom.

You will enjoy the new insights that Rick Warren has, with his wife now having cancer and him having ‘wealth’ from the book sales. This is an absolutely incredible short interview with Rick Warren, ‘Purpose Driven Life’ author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California .

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body — but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity! . This is the warm-up act – the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn’t going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you’re just coming out of one, or you’re getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that’s not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness. This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys – you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don’t believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it’s kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life .

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

If you focus on your problems, you’re going into self-centeredness, which is ‘my problem, my issues, my pain.’ But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, has drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don’t think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.
Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God’s purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don’t get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn’t put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He’s more interested in what I am than what I do.
That’s why we’re called human beings, not human doings.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

Live an Extraordinary Life

“Life and business is like the changing seasons. You cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself. Therein lies the opportunity to live an extraordinary life—the opportunity to change yourself.”~Jim Rohn

My husband and I have participated in several corporate fasts with our church.  We have been learning more and more about the value of fasting and how it is a spiritual discipline that is very beneficial in our walk with God.

I have read the book, The Daniel Fast, and would like to recommend the website to you, http://www.daniel-fast.com/.  The author, Susan Gregory, explains the origin of the Daniel fast, giving insight into the biblical truths concerning Daniel of the Old Testament and the “fast” he underwent in order to honor God and avoid eating foods that had been sacrificed to idols.

Read the book of Daniel and see how God spared Daniel from the lion’s mouth because of his faithfulness and obedience to God’s word.

Are you seeking a closer walk with God?  Are you seeking answers for your life from Him?  Have you considered fasting?

Fast and Pray…God is Faithful to Listen and Respond.
